Ting Ou-Yang is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in the foundational principles of art. With a profound respect for the techniques and traditions that have shaped artistic expression through the ages, he has always had a modest fascination with the outside world and chooses to paint quiet structures from everyday life that create a strong sense of civilization.

Ting’s artistic style is heavily influenced by the techniques of old masters from Michelangelo to impressionist artists such as Caillebotte and Edward Hopper. His work strives to capture both the strength of classical form and techniques to modern realism often seen in his city landscape scenes. These everyday scenes are selected particularly based on what is most interesting to him in terms of composition. He believes composition is the crucial element and paired with foundational techniques leads to a successful piece of art.

Born in Canton, China, Ting discovered his passion for art and was fascinated with drawing at an early age. He immigrated to the United States in the early 90s and that is when he decided to become a professional artist. Ting honed his skills in painting deeply rooted in the fundamentals of art from color, composition, technique, light and shadow and received his formal art education at The Maryland Institute, College of Art on various scholarships and a Master’s of Fine Arts degree from SUNY, Queen’s College, both in painting. Ting’s preferred medium is oil on canvas, albeit he is skilled across many mediums from graphite, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, printmaking and even pottery.

Ting has exhibited and taught young artists in the United States and in Asia, along with many personal art commissions. He is eager to share his experiences and journey in painting and drawing, reflecting on what he has accomplished and the lessons learned.

His goal is to inspire and guide aspiring young artists and passionate adults alike, offering them insights and teaching them the foundational techniques that can bring them closer to achieving their dreams.
